Italy negotiates €1.5 billion secure communications deal with SpaceX, kicking off Europe's largest project


The Italian government is in advanced talks with Elon Musk's SpaceX for a five-year secure communications deal worth €1.5 billion ($1.6 billion). The deal aims to provide the Italian government with high-level telephone and internet encryption services covering both civilian and military use, particularly for military communications in the Mediterranean. The project has been in preparation since mid-2023 and has now been approved by the Italian intelligence agencies and the Ministry of Defense.
