Elon Musk recently revealed that xAI is significantly boosting the computing power for the upcoming Grok 3 model. Musk stated that Grok 3 is currently being trained with 10 times more computing power than Grok 2, and this will soon increase to 20 times. To support this ambitious plan, xAI is expanding its "Colossus" supercomputer cluster.
The cluster currently has 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs and is planned to be expanded to 200,000, including 50,000 new H200 GPUs. Even more remarkably, Musk predicts that the cluster may be expanded to one million GPUs in the future. Although Grok 3 was originally scheduled for release at the end of 2024, it now appears to be postponed.
